The Road Back Home

Leaving home never gets easier

And when I left, I promised you I would be fine

I didn’t know my heart would pay a heavier fine

I formed a mask to hide and found that it wouldn’t drop

But home makes me spill my fears to the very last drop

And the first time I feel safe again is in the Fall

Returning home is the only time I let all the stress fall

For I ride this new life like a crashing wave

Tumbling in sorrow when I say goodbye with a wave

Remember the tears when I first left?

After all this time, there shouldn’t be any more left

I tell you now that I hate the Texas desert

Even more so, I hate the comfort that I must desert

Leaving home never gets easier
