“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” I’m sure we’ve all heard that saying a time or two. As an avid breakfast lover, I stand by this statement. However, if it were up to me, I would have breakfast for every meal of my day. You have such a wide variety with the many types of breakfast foods. Feeling like getting something on the sweeter side? Pancakes and French toast are your friends. Feeling like getting something a little more on the savory side? Huevos rancheros or avocado toast are meant for you. However, the best breakfast food of all time would have to be breakfast tacos.

Let’s discuss the versatility of breakfast tacos (and why they’re the best). Breakfast tacos are some of the most versatile food items. There are so many ways you can customize your breakfast taco to your liking. You can have it simple, or you can customize it with multiple additional toppings. Essentially, a breakfast taco consists of eggs and a tortilla (flour or corn); however, you can add toppings and additions to the base of your taco as well. For example, in addition to the egg, different types of protein can be added. These proteins include, but are not limited to: bacon, chorizo, ham, Canadian bacon, etc. Not into meat? A possible vegetarian option would be adding potatoes into your egg base. This will take your breakfast taco game to the next level because you can customize the base of your taco to your liking.

So, you have your tortilla, egg, possible addition of another protein…now what? Let’s get into the multitude of toppings you can add to your taco. Toppings are a great way to provide some extra flavor and texture to your breakfast. Plus, who doesn’t like extra toppings? Some typical toppings for breakfast tacos include: avocado/guacamole, cheese (shredded, cotija, etc.), salsa (red/green or hot/mild), pico de gallo, cilantro, lime, grilled peppers, and picante. There are so many more toppings you can add, but these are the typical additions that most enjoy.

Even though breakfast tacos can be on the smaller side, because they are high in protein, you can still enjoy your tacos and still be satisfied by them. In fact, because they’re smaller, you could have two or maybe even three. This allows you to try new things. If you want to try more than one topping or style of taco, you can try all of them because they are small. Breakfast tacos are just an all around great way to get your protein in and to start your day off right. Afterall, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
