A Look at The Skiff

By Anonymous

This edition of the Skiff, published on November 21, 1989, features an article about students in a human sexuality class. Although it does not say the word “homophobia” explicitly, it discusses the “stereotyping and bigotry” people in the LGBTQ+ community face, which I found surprising in an article from 1989. Additionally, the article discusses physical violence against queer people, describing an incident at a party for the Texas Gay Rodeo Association in which someone threw tear gas into a room at the event, causing many to be injured or even hospitalized. Overall, the article provides some important and surprising information on the history of the LGBTQ+ community and LGBTQ+ rights activism that I would not have expected to see in such an old article.
