Mannequin

Mannequin
I am a mannequin.
I’m flesh and blood, tissue and bone.
Bruises blossom across my skin
As reminders to watch where I’m going.
Tiredness slips into my limbs at the day’s end
While air rushes like wind through my lungs,
In and out, in and out.
My body proves that I am human.
But
Where most have features, I’m unmarked.
An empty canvas.
As a figure is dressed in clothes,
I’m dressed in others’ expectations.
Blank, featureless, nameless,
Just like a model in a store.
If you don’t have an identity,
People can’t judge you.
You can’t get hurt.
The girl without a face.
