Upon That Hill

By Corrigan Smiley, Sophomore, Burleson, TX

We built a beautiful house upon that hill.

We had a beautiful family we started together,

So why did she take that pill?

Once was fine,

She needed it.

Twice was ok,

She was struggling.

Thrice was alarming,

She wanted more.

First came the shame,

“I’m sorry.”

Then came the blame,

“I’m sorry.”

Last came the game,

“I’m sorry.”

Sorry doesn’t cover the fact she lost the game,

she took the last brick from that wobbly tower,

It came crashing down with power,

Just as she did the same.

She gave up on us,

We never gave up on her,

But,

She never knew,

That our love was true.

The thoughts clouded her mind,

She left us behind,

Upon that beautiful hill,

With her last pill.
