“River Jewels” by Chip Fankhauser

Fresh water on my toes
As the stream flows, everything goes.
The leaves from the tree of life
coast like boats on a river of strife
because the stream never stops flowing.

Fresh water on my toes,
As I watch the sunset in the decaying skiffs.
I can’t help myself from picking one up,
Because while all is well watching time go by,
Knowing that the stream never stops flowing,
The river jewels move as well!
Is it just to disrupt their course to the sea
So I can admire them again?

I don’t know. But they sure do make me happy.

Fresh water on my toes,
Time flows over my toes.
If I don’t catch my favorites,
But watch them go,
Then maybe my trip to the stream
Wasn’t worth the walk.
