“freytag’s folly” by Chip Fankhauser

a Protagonist pops into existence,
unaware of the coming climb.
suddenly, greatness is thrust upon Them,
an inciting incident by divine accident.
Their rise is steep, but the peak is just,
so They keep on climbing.
finally, They arrive, standing at
the summit of Themselves,
and face the vehement view.
after admiring Their apogee,
and admitting Their apologies,
They begin their descent,
pondering the impact of the pyramid.
denouement.

how can one compare
the caterpillar and the butterfly?
metamorphosis means it starts as one
but turns into the other.
immaturity to adulthood,
in two or more stages,
on which are performed
complete transformations.
the caterpillar craves chlorophyll,
the butterfly, the sky.
one organism on its path,
but once it changes, it can never go back.

Im afraid taglines dont account
for the mutation that happens upon the mount.
can They who climb the pyramid
ever come down?
